What MindTube does
MindTube is a Chrome extension that generates YouTube playlist suggestions from a mood, activity, artist, genre, or keyword entered by the user.
Information MindTube accesses, collects, and stores
When you generate a playlist, MindTube sends the mood, activity, artist, genre, era, or keyword you entered to the MindTube backend. The backend also receives a randomly generated extension identifier and standard request metadata, such as the IP address, that are used to prevent abuse and enforce short-term rate limits.
MindTube uses Chrome's local extension storage on your device to keep your last prompt, the current playlist, up to five recent playlist entries, a random extension identifier, an hourly rate-limit counter, and temporary interface state. Recent playlists can contain artist names, track titles, YouTube video URLs, and YouTube video IDs.
If you choose to rate a playlist, MindTube collects the prompt, rating, generated artist and track names, random extension identifier, extension version, and submission time. MindTube does not store YouTube video URLs or video IDs in rating records. If you submit support or uninstall feedback, MindTube collects the information you enter, which may include your email address if you provide it.
YouTube API Services
MindTube uses the YouTube Data API v3 search.list method to search for publicly available YouTube videos that match generated artist and track names. The API response can include public video IDs, video titles, and channel titles. MindTube uses that information only to select a matching video and create a standard YouTube URL.
MindTube does not use YouTube OAuth, access Authorized Data or private YouTube account data, or upload, edit, delete, rate, comment on, or manage YouTube videos, playlists, channels, or accounts.
Use of YouTube API Services is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service, the Google Privacy Policy, and the MindTube Terms of Service.
Data we do not collect
MindTube does not request access to your YouTube account, Google account, browsing history, contacts, emails, payment data, or files.
How information is used and shared
Your prompt is processed by MindTube's backend and by OpenAI to generate artist and track suggestions. OpenAI does not receive the random extension identifier from MindTube. Generated artist and track names are sent to Google through the YouTube Data API to find public videos. Google processes those requests under the Google Privacy Policy.
MindTube's backend is hosted by Vercel. Upstash Redis is used for temporary rate-limit records and the time-limited YouTube URL cache. Optional ratings and feedback are stored in a private Google Sheet accessible only to the MindTube operator and service providers acting on its behalf. These providers process information only to operate, secure, and improve MindTube; MindTube does not sell user information.
Cookies, local storage, and similar technology
The MindTube extension uses Chrome local storage as described above. It does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. The MindTube website loads web fonts from Google, so your browser makes a request to Google and Google may process standard device and request information under its own privacy policy. Hosting and infrastructure providers may also process standard server logs and security data.
Retention and refresh of YouTube API Data
Raw YouTube search responses are used transiently and are not stored. The backend may cache a selected public YouTube video URL, which contains a video ID, for no more than 30 calendar days. At the end of that period the cached data is automatically deleted; a later request performs a new YouTube API search and retrieves current data.
YouTube video URLs and video IDs stored locally in Chrome extension storage are also automatically deleted after no more than 30 calendar days. YouTube API Data is not retained in rating or feedback records.
Other retention
Temporary backend rate-limit records expire after one hour. Locally stored information that is not YouTube API Data remains until it is replaced, cleared through Chrome, or removed when the extension is uninstalled. Optional ratings, support messages, and uninstall feedback are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to operate and improve MindTube or meet legal obligations.
Your choices and data deletion
You can delete locally stored information at any time by clearing MindTube's extension data in Chrome or uninstalling the extension. To request deletion of support messages, uninstall feedback, playlist ratings, or other backend records associated with your random extension identifier or email address, contact mindtubecontact@gmail.com or use the support form.
